概要

High intake of soft drinks during pregnancy has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of offspring’s obesity in western countries. The objective of this study is to examine the association of soft drinks intake before and during pregnancy with offspring’soverweight/obesity in Japan. Data were analyzed on 7432 mother-child pairs in the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project Birth and Three-Generation Cohort Study. Soft drinks intake before and during pregnancy were calculated using food frequency questionnaires and divided into quintiles. Offspring with BMI z-score exceeding 2 standard deviation were classified as overweight/obesity at 1 year of age. Multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine the associations of soft drinks intake before and during pregnancy with offspring’s overweight/obesity. Among the participants, 8.8% of offspring were overweight/obesity. Soft drinks intake from pre-to early pregnancy was not associated with offspring’s overweight/obesity [adjusted odds ratio(aOR): 1.00; 95% Confidence lnterval(CI): 0.77-1.29]. Women in the highest quantile from early to mid-pregnancy had higher risk of offspring overweight/obesity compared to women in the lowest quintile (aOR: 1.33; 95% Cl: 1.02 - 1.73). In conclusion, higher soft drinks intake from early to mid-pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of offspring’s overweight/obesity at 1 year of age.
