Conclusion
For effective decarburization of chromium-containing
special steel while minimizing oxidation loss of chromium
into slag, the present study has been aimed at determining
the phase relationship of the CaO–SiO2–Cr2O3 ternary slag
and measuring the Cr2O3 activities at 1 573 K. The results
are summarized as follows.
(1) When the solution of chromium in liquid copper
obeyed Henry’s law, the activity coefficient was given as
log Cr 1.54 at 1 573 K
(2) The Cr2O3 activities were measured in the twophase region of CaO + CaCr2O4 and the three-phase coexistence of CaSiO3 + SiO2 + Ca3Cr2Si3O12 at 1 573 K. From
the present activity data, the Gibbs energy changes of the
