Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify the yogo teachers’ concepts regarding adolescent girls'
menstruation related health behaviors in elementary and junior high schools since these teachers are in daily
contact with adolescent girls in schools. Group interviews were conducted with eight yogo teachers, and
the results were analyzed qualitatively and descriptively, using Steps for Coding and Theorization (SCAT).
The constituent concepts of adolescent girls' menstruation related health behaviors were: "Coping with
menstruation in a limited environment," "Mothers as key persons related to menstruation," "Yogo teachers’
responses," "Collaboration with hospitals and medical professionals," and "Necessity of repetitive learning
in school education." It was suggested that the menstruation related health behaviors of adolescent girls
require "learning to respond specifically to the environment," "the importance of cooperation among yogo
teachers, mothers, hospitals, and medical professionals," and "the necessity of school education and its
repetitive learning while adapting to the individual growth and development of children and students." The
need for teachers to be flexible and supportive of adolescent girls' menstruation-related health behaviors, and
to make recommendations for creating a better environment for adolescent girls.
