ABSTRACT
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the amount of rehabilitation performed
during acute phase hospitalization and after transfer and to correlate it with the data of Activities of
daily living (ADL) and sickbed function reports in Yamagata Prefecture.
Subjects and Methods: At Yamagata University Hospital, 654 of the 996 patients who were
prescribed physical and occupational therapy by their physicians between April 1, and September
30, 2016.were eligible for survey distribution. Patient data collected using the Yamagata University
Hospital’
s electronic medical record system, and a self-administered questionnaire survey was
conducted using the mail method. All data were statistically analyzed.
Results: Of the 327 replies 309 were included in the analysis. 249 patients were discharged from
Yamagata University Hospital, 57 were transferred home, and 3 were admitted to other institutions.
Regardless of the amount of rehabilitation performed at the hospital to which they were transferred,
there were more patients who were admitted to hospitals with underdeveloped rehabilitation systems.
The results of multiple regression analysis showed that the amount of rehabilitation performed at the
transfer site had a significant effect on ADL.
Conclusion: The results of this study may suggest that hospitals in Yamagata Prefecture that
accept patients transferred from acute care hospitals need to establish a system that provides more
rehabilitation services, and if the goal is to improve ADLs, to provide at least 2 units (40 minutes) for
at least 5 days.
