A study about the immunomodulatory function of dietary compounds with hypolipidemic effect
概要
1.5. Aim of Doctoral Thesis
Several dietary compounds could exhibit good immunomodulatory effects in addition to
their cholesterol-lowering effects. However, studies on the immunomodulatory effects
(e.g., anti-inflammatory and/or anti-allergic effects) of cholesterol-lowering molecules are
still limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the immunomodulatory effects of
(i) β-1,3 glucan, β-1,3/1,6-glucan, and (ii) bisacurone.
β-1,3 glucan and β-1,3/1,6-glucan are soluble dietary fiber. These β-glucans bind to Tolllike receptor (TLR)2 and Dectin-1 expressed on the cell surface of dendritic cells (DC)
and macrophages. Several studies have shown the immunostimulatory effects of β-1,3
glucan and β-1,3/1,6-glucan, whereas the immunomodulatory effect of β-1,3 glucan and
β-1,3/1,6-glucan is expected owing to its effect on the modulation of the gut microbiome.
In particular, the anti-allergic effect of β-1,3 glucan and β-1,3/1,6-glucan have been
debated. ...
